A part of the Lafayette musical community since 1982, the LCB is comprised of 80 talented woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists. Members come together on Tuesday evenings to rehearse from late August through June. They travel from more than fifteen communities surrounding Lafayette where they pursue careers as varied as accounting, education, engineering, computer science, homemaking, banking, medicine, law and retirement.
The Lafayette Concert Band functions through the guidance of a Board of Directors who are active members of the band and who, in addition to playing time, contribute many hours to the management of the organization. Funding is provided by Season Memberships, Ticket Sales and Friends of the Lafayette Concert Band.
LCB is proud to have hosted the 1997 National Convention of the Association of Concert Bands. Members of the Association from throughout the United States were welcomed to the heart of Cajun Country and were treated to the wonderful joie de vivre of Acadiana. In April 2001, the band accepted an invitation to perform at the annual ACB National Convention in Pensacola.
In December of 1999 the Lafayette Concert Band was awarded the Sudler Silver Scroll. This award is administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation and is North America’s most prestigious award for Community Concert Bands. LCB is only the twenty-second community band in the nation to receive this recognition since the program began in 1987.
